Peekskill, NY Real Estate & Local Guide
Peekskill is a city in northern Westchester County on the east side of the Hudson River. Its traditional downtown, arts and restaurant scene, Metro-North Hudson Line station and connected riverfront parks distinguish it from the smaller mountain hamlets across the Bear Mountain Bridge.
I'm John Cordeira, Broker/Owner of Cordeira Homes, with more than 20 years helping Long Island buyers and sellers. My 7.1-mile Bear Mountain hike prompted me to research the surrounding Hudson Highlands communities and connect the outdoor experience with accurate, address-specific housing information.

What Peekskill Is Like
Peekskill has a pedestrian-oriented downtown built around Main Street, Division Street and adjacent blocks, together with a waterfront park corridor. The city's arts and entertainment activity includes galleries, studios and the Paramount Hudson Valley venue. This is an established small city, not a residential subdivision of Bear Mountain.
Getting Around Peekskill
Peekskill's Metro-North Hudson Line station is near the waterfront, while Route 9 and regional roads connect north and south. The Bear Mountain Bridge lies to the north and west for trips across the Hudson. Look at the specific commute, parking and walk from a property to the station; city streets and hillside roads differ.
Parks, Nature & Hudson Highlands Recreation
Riverfront Green Park offers river viewing, playgrounds and community events. Depew Park has wooded walks and recreation facilities. The city's network also includes Charles Point/Fleischmann Pier and other city parks. Bear Mountain is a regional excursion across the Hudson, not a Peekskill neighborhood park.

Before planning mountain trail outings, check the New York State Parks trail alerts and legal trailhead access; some routes have construction or weather-related detours.
Shopping, Dining & Local Businesses
Peekskill's Business Improvement District includes restaurants, cafes, specialty retailers and a farmers market in and around downtown. Unlike Fort Montgomery or Tomkins Cove, the city has a distinct concentration of pedestrian-oriented dining and arts establishments.
Schools and Community Institutions
Peekskill City School District operates the city's public schools, including Peekskill Middle and High Schools and grade-focused elementary buildings. Confirm the assigned district and current enrollment details for each residence. Verify school and property boundaries at the address level through the school district's official website.
Housing and Real Estate in Peekskill

Buying in Peekskill?
Compare downtown walkability, station proximity, parking arrangements, multiunit versus detached ownership, property taxes, zoning and maintenance. A condo or co-op near the riverfront is a different product from a detached home on a steep city street.

Accurate marketing in Peekskill begins with the property type: condo, co-op, multifamily or detached. Emphasize actual station access, documented renovations and real local amenities without implying that every address shares the same downtown experience.
