Tomkins Cove Parks, Hiking & Outdoor Recreation
« Tomkins Cove Real Estate & Local Guide
Tomkins Cove is a distinctive northern Rockland hamlet close to steep wooded ridges and the Hudson. Trail access and terrain are central to its regional outdoor identity.
1777 Trail Access
The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference identifies Tomkins Cove as a place to access the 1777 Trail. Always consult current trail maps and public trailhead information, not just informal parking suggestions.
Jones Point and Dunderberg Mountain
Jones Point is cited as an access area for the Ramapo-Dunderberg and Timp-Torne trails. These are rocky Highland landscapes with meaningful elevation changes; appropriate footwear, weather checks and daylight planning matter.
Nearby Bear Mountain State Park
Bear Mountain State Park offers an extensive trail and recreation system, but the trails are not interchangeable and access can be affected by construction. Official state park notices should be your reference for planned trips.
My Bear Mountain Hike and the 7.1-Mile Loop
I hiked a Bear Mountain Loop via Twin Forts, with 1,572 feet of ascent and a rocky descent. The experience explains my interest in places where people can live within reach of true mountain terrain.

Buying a Home for Trail Access?
Check the exact route from the property to designated parking and entrances. Not all forested land is publicly accessible, and cliff terrain, roads and seasonal restrictions can create real barriers between a house and a trail.
