East Meadow Parks & Outdoor Recreation | Eisenhower Park & Local Fields

East Meadow has an advantage that shapes daily life here: an unusually large county park right in the community, along with smaller Town of Hempstead parks for sports, playgrounds and neighborhood recreation. There are very different ways to spend an active afternoon depending on whether you want a long walk, a swim, a pickup game or space for the kids.

I am John Cordeira, Broker/Owner of Cordeira Homes. I grew up in East Meadow, graduated from East Meadow High School in 1996 and have been involved in fitness for decades. Through my #RippedRealtor perspective, I pay attention to the places people can actually use to stay active, not just the names of parks on a map.

Eisenhower Park: East Meadow's Biggest Outdoor Destination

Eisenhower Park is operated by Nassau County and covers roughly 930 acres. Its scale is difficult to appreciate from Hempstead Turnpike or Merrick Avenue alone. Inside the park are golf courses, playing fields, fitness paths, playgrounds, swimming facilities, skating and outdoor cultural spaces.

Walking, Running and the Fitness Trail

The park's two-mile fitness trail, described by Nassau County, winds through the park with stations for stretching and simple bodyweight exercises. If you want to get moving without planning an organized game, this is an accessible place to start. The trail is on the west side of Park Boulevard, with access near the field house and playground by Parking Field 2.

For a casual walk, the internal paths and large open spaces offer an alternative to staying near East Meadow's commercial roads. Like any park, sections can be busy during events, league activities and peak recreation times.

Golf, Tennis and Athletic Fields

Eisenhower has three public 18-hole golf courses, named Red, White and Blue, along with a driving range. Nassau County also lists outdoor tennis and pickleball facilities, ballfields, cricket and football fields and a basketball court. Availability, permits and user fees vary by facility, so check official park information before going.

Swimming at the Nassau County Aquatic Center

The Nassau County Aquatic Center is an indoor swimming destination built for the 1998 Goodwill Games. It serves competitive swimming as well as public recreational and exercise use. Its pool configuration, public sessions and access requirements may change with events, so check the County's current schedule.

Ice Skating, Playgrounds and Family Activities

The park is also home to the Northwell Health Ice Center, miniature golf, playground areas, and family-oriented facilities. The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre and memorial spaces make this more than a sports park. It is worth checking the Nassau County park page for current programming and seasonal availability rather than relying on old hours found in search results.

My take: If you are comparing East Meadow with communities built around a waterfront or a walkable train-station downtown, Eisenhower Park is one of the biggest lifestyle differences. You have serious recreation options without leaving the area.

Senator Speno Memorial Park: A Neighborhood Sports Park

Address: 745 East Meadow Avenue, East Meadow

Senator Speno Memorial Park is a Town of Hempstead facility with a more local-scale feel than Eisenhower. The Town lists basketball, handball, multipurpose fields, playground facilities, shuffleboard, tennis, pickleball and a vita course.

This is the kind of park to consider for a playground stop, court time or a shorter workout without committing to a trip through the much larger county park. Court availability and permitted activities can vary by season.

Veterans Memorial Park: Pools, Courts and a Playground

Address: 1700 Prospect Avenue, East Meadow

Veterans Memorial Park is another Town of Hempstead destination. Its listed facilities include outdoor pools, a wading pool, tennis, paddleball, basketball, handball, playground equipment, game tables and sitting areas.

Unlike an always-open walking path, swimming is seasonal and governed by access rules. The Town's pool information has details on eligibility, rates and operating periods. Check that before bringing the family rather than assuming the pool is open.

Salisbury Park Drive Ballfields

Address: 2330 Salisbury Park Drive, East Meadow

The Town of Hempstead lists Salisbury Park Drive Ballfields as a Little League and multipurpose field facility. For households involved in youth sports, locations like this can be part of the weekly schedule rather than occasional destinations.

Which East Meadow Park Fits Your Day?

  • For a long walk or outdoor fitness: Start with Eisenhower Park's paths and fitness trail.
  • For golf or larger athletic facilities: Eisenhower Park has multiple courses and county-managed sports options.

  • For swimming: Check the Aquatic Center for indoor sessions and Veterans Memorial Park for seasonal outdoor swimming.
  • For organized ballfields: Look at Salisbury Park Drive and the athletic fields in Eisenhower.

How Parks Fit Into East Meadow Real Estate

Location near a park can be a benefit to buyers who use it, but the value of a specific home depends on more than recreation. The surrounding block, traffic, lot, taxes, school district, property condition and available competing homes all matter. Someone who wants easy access to the Aquatic Center may evaluate a location differently from someone focused on a quiet street or commuting route.

#RippedRealtor outdoor note: Not every workout has to happen indoors. A brisk walk, trail run, court session or swim adds variety. East Meadow also has dedicated indoor facilities. My East Meadow Gyms & Fitness Guide compares strength training gyms, coached workouts, Pilates, yoga and specialty studios.
